Family-Friendly Itineraries: Grampians Lookouts, MacKenzie Falls and Lake Bellfield

For many families, this is the day that feels most like the Grampians postcard: sweeping lookouts, dramatic mountain views, one of Victoria’s most beautiful waterfalls and a peaceful lakeside stop before returning to Halls Gap.
This is the biggest sightseeing day of the trip. You will tick off some of the Grampians’ classic lookouts, visit beautiful MacKenzie Falls and still have time for a slower stop by the lake on the way back.
Start at Boroka Lookout, which is a brilliant first stop because the views are huge and the walk from the car is short. You can look out over Halls Gap, Lake Bellfield and the surrounding ranges, all without needing a long hike to get there.
Next, continue to Reed Lookout for another big Grampians view, make this a longer photo stop and enjoy the colours of the cliffs, forest and valley below.
From there, make your way to MacKenzie Falls. You can enjoy the waterfall from the lookout, or, if everyone is up for it, continue down the steeper track to the base. The walk back up takes effort, especially with younger kids, but the waterfall is a highlight.
On the way back towards Halls Gap, stop at Lake Bellfield for a slower finish. Stretch your legs, take in the mountain backdrop and let the afternoon feel a bit less planned. It is a calm way to wind down after a big day of lookouts and waterfalls.
For your final evening in the Grampians, either head back to Serenity for a quiet night or go into Halls Gap for dinner at Spirit of Punjab, a well-loved local option for a flavourful, family-friendly meal.
