Wildflower Season means it’s time to visit the Grampians
15 October 2019 - The Grampians

If you know your tinsel-lily from your parrot pea and your fuschia from your heath, then you will enjoy Spring in the Grampians.
The region is blessed with more than one third of Victoria’s flora and over 1,000 species of flowering plants coming to life.
Whilst the whole area is bursting with colour, we recommend a hike up Boroka Lookout with plenty of photo breaks along the way. The Lookout offers the best views over the Grampians and is one of our favourite hikes.
Seasonal flower shows run around this time with the Grampians Wildflower Show held in September. The Stawell Orchid Society Summer Show, usually held in November, is regarded as the largest Orchid show in Victoria. Plants are for sale, along with handy hints on how to look after orchids.
A surprise attraction you won’t want to miss. A bit about Lake Fyans.
From Serenity Halls Gap Accommodation, jump in the car and take a short 10 – minute drive to Lake Fyans.
Lake Fyans, a man-made lake constructed in 1916, is located between Stawell and Pomonal.
It’s a great destination for many water activities including swimming, water skiing, jet skiing, sailing or perhaps even some leisurely kayaking.
Fishing is popular and we believe it is one of the best kept secrets of the region (the lake usually boasts good numbers of trout).
There’s nothing quite like swimming in a lake and sandy beaches invite you in for a quick dip. It’s invigorating, exhilarating while at the same time being soothing and relaxing, but – did we mention cold?
The standing and sub-merged timber, provide the ideal habitat for bird life and reed clusters are the home to many schools of smelt, gudgeon, minnows, mudeyes and other aquatic life.
Surrounding Lake Fyans is an array of scenic walking tracks offering epic views of the mountains in the background. The tracks are suitable for all fitness levels.
Lake Fyans is a beautiful spot to visit, unwind and take in what nature has to offer. But, if you are feeling adventurous, visit Lake Fyans at sunrise and don’t forget your camera!
