Serenity Accommodation Port Douglas is located on Four Mile Beach. The sandy white beach is a lovely place to go for long beach walks, justifying the food and wine you had at dinner the night before! Amongst the many restaurants in Port Douglas our favourite is the Salsa Bar and Grill famously visited by Bill and Hillary Clinton in 1996 and 2001.
Port Douglas has two significant festival periods during the year. Carnivale is held in May (Port Douglas Carnivale 2015 will run from 22nd- 31st May) and runs for about 10 days over two weekends beginning with a parade in Macrossan St. The second is held through October and November with The Sunset in the Park Music Festival and the Porttoberfest beer festival are held on the middle and last weekends of October.
The Port Douglas Sunday Market – located in Anzac Park, right on the waterfront overlooking the Coral Sea, provides a delightful mix of local art, craft, souvenirs and fresh produce. The markets are a great place to find scores of interesting items. Locals come from all over the Far North to sell their products to inquisitive tourists and locals alike. Here you’ll find original arts and crafts, jewellery, tropical clothing, fruit and vegetables, glassware, books, homemade foods, unique Australian goods, souvenirs and more.
For us the main reason to visit Port Douglas is the climate. Balmy days that blend into beautiful tropical evenings. There is something about walking home from a great restaurant on an evening dressed in shorts and t-shirt when most other people in the southern states are still huddled up close to their heater! Port Douglas is a one-hour easy drive from the Cairns airport. If you haven’t been to Port Douglas – what are you waiting for? Experience the adventure of Far North Queensland.
